It's Usually the Network, Not the Phones

Common Causes and Fixes
- Not enough upload bandwidth: calls degrade when upload is saturated. Upgrade upload or move to symmetrical fiber.
- No QoS: without Quality of Service, a big file upload can stomp on voice. Prioritize voice traffic on your router/firewall.
- Wi-Fi instead of wired: Wi-Fi adds jitter. Use wired connections or hardphones for critical desks.
- Overloaded or cheap router: underpowered gear struggles with concurrent calls. Right-size the hardware.
- ISP packet loss: if the loss is upstream, a dedicated circuit with an SLA is the durable fix.
Fast diagnostic: run a VoIP/network quality test during a bad period. Consistent jitter or packet loss points to the network; problems on only one device point to that device or its Wi-Fi.
When to Escalate the Connection
